Abey Khao-Breaking barriers with sign language.
Located in the vicinity of F-6 (Near the
multipurpose ground), Abey Khao is a roadside cart run by a group of young and
utterly warm men with hearing disability who put in great amount of effort in
order to make their ends meet. The story behind the success of Abey Khao are two brothers who not only decided to help themselves, but to help others with hearing impairment issues in earning a living by setting up food cart. They have not opted to
beg instead made an endeavor to sustain and have proven themselves to be
extremely hardworking and ambitious. These young men are energetic, courteous
and full of life. The best part? They greet their customers with a smile and
warmth and utmost respect.
They pitched their idea to several vendors but did
not get a positive response. The brothers then decided that with total
investment of PKR 275,000, they would set up their own food cart. They reached
out to the DMA and Mayor themselves who finally issued them a license on humanitarian
grounds. It wasn't easy at first as they faced challenges related to supply
chain and encroachment, however they were successfully able to the overcome
those teething issues.
I went to visit the food cart yesterday and ordered
Masala Fries (PKR120) and Chicken Jalapeno Burger (PKR280). The fries tasted
good however were slightly soggy but the burger was excellent. The bun was
fresh, with a generous amount of jalapenos. The sauce used was creamy and had
just the right amount of salt, which enhanced the flavor of the burger even
further.
I would highly recommend everyone to give them a
try.
